Playing the 3-4-3 Soccer formation with the Nscaa and Anson Dorrance

by Taylor Tollison

The goal of soccer training is improved performance, injury prevention, soccer skills and tactics. Improved performance should never come at the cost of an injured player. Goal #1 is injury prevention in a soccer conditioning program. Goal #2 is to improve performance.

The 3-4-3 Soccer formation is played with 3 up front,  a diamond shape in the mid. In the back exist 3 backs.  The system is based on defensive pressure.

In this system the goalkeeper must be very alert of the action in front. The keeper must communicate with the team and be able to make adjustments. Another adjustment that must be made in this scheme is when the central defender goes out wide for defense a midfielder is expected to cover.
