Overview

The 20 and 40 yard dash tests are meant to be performed simultaneously in a team setting.  By performing these tests simultaneously you will save time.  As one athlete fully recovers after running, the other teammates will perform their tests one at a time.  Then after the whole team has gone through one round of tests, repeat the process.

How to perform the soccer speed tests

  1. One athlete will run at a time.

  2. One coach will stand at the 20 yard line and the second at the 40 yard line. If you don't have two coaches available then use an athlete to time.  You will also need two stopwatches.

  3. Each time you do this test the variables should be the same.

  4. The coaches will both start their stop watch when the athlete initiates his or her run. Coach 1 will stop the watch when the athlete's torso crosses the 20 yard cone and coach 2 will do the same for the 40 yard cone.

  5. Perform the test 2 times for each athlete.
